HEAVY RAINFAIL.

Image
Heavy rains caused flooding in the local airport residential Heavy rainfall on the afternoon of the 25th of March inundated the whole town, turning airport residential into a water village. The downpour went on for about an hour and the drainage system was not able to take that much water. Water flowed into homes on streets at ground level-which normally don't see any water even during heavy storms! A big tree was snapped off by the wind that accompanied this flood, damaging several properties at random. Goods still hung up from the tree remained there next day. As the floodwaters came into my dormitory and with them our chances to be out of doors for hours, my hostel was a dry tower atop the ocean. Around us in the neighborhood, all of our roads became rivers running in every direction — sometimes slowly enough for it to be navigated with difficulty by anyone at all who tried. People woke up in the morning to a shin deep road flooded by the night′s rain. Homes and shops were eng...

UniMAC Entrepreneurship Fair Showcases Innovation. Accra, Ghana – March 29, 2025. The Entrepreneurship Fair: EDF 2025 – The Venture Vanguard Edition at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) was a vibrant showcase of student innovation, as participants presented creative business ideas as part of their final exams. The event featured a diverse range of projects, from modern twists on traditional foods to innovative hygiene solutions. One of the most talked-about products was Pitoh, a reimagined version of the classic local drink. Many attendees, both young and old, were eager to try its new flavors—palm wine and pineapple with ginger—which led to Pitoh becoming the first product to sell out. One attendee who tasted the palm wine-flavored Pitoh described it as “very nice.” The group’s friendly service and high hygiene standards also impressed customers. Another standout project was Gashit, a pre-mixed combination of gari and shito designed for SHS boarding students. In...

A celebration of literature and African Culture

UniMAC Hosts Annual Book Exhibition  "The UniMAC Hosts Its Annual Book Exhibition" was an article that appeared in The Cape Times' July 14, 2002 issue. At this event, Level 200 students displayed books that they had written during their second semester of work in Level 100. The exhibition, which was held in two sessions--morning and evening--gave students an opportunity to present their literary works while noting the rich diversity of African cultures. The books were exhibited with the kind of titles and cover designs that you might expect in a professional publishing house; no one was permitted to look inside these works themselves. The picture show was fodder for future writers in Level 100, who next semester will be heading out on their own book-writing adventure before showing their collections to the world in Level 200. Apart from this book festival, the evening session consisted of colourful cultural performances from several African countries. One particularly s...

Blending Football with the Flavours of Ewe culture

A Night of Culture, Dance & Football at Media General By Korkor  It was another thrilling Friday night at Media General in Accra, where culture, music, and football blended to create an unforgettable experience. Since the beginning of March, this weekly event has brought people together to celebrate Ghanaian heritage while enjoying the excitement of live football screenings. On March 21st, as Ghana took on Chad, the Ewe community took center stage with powerful performances of Agbadza and Boboobo, adding a rich cultural flavor to the night. Walking into the venue, I was immediately drawn in by the vibrant atmosphere. The setting was warm and inviting—traditional woven baskets hung from the ceiling, colorful lights illuminated the space, and the sound of drumming filled the air. The performers, dressed in bright Ewe kente and beads, moved rhythmically to the deep, echoing beats of the drums. Their movements told stories of unity, strength, and joy. What made the moment even more...
